This course covered the foundations of news reporting, multimedia storytelling and professional journalistic writing. I learned the basic principles of AP style, which is the standard in the field, and gained a stronger understanding of editing, news reports structure and ethical reporting. The course also helped me develop an eye for selecting photos and video that support journalistic work.

Hit the trails with a shelter dog
Tails on Trails is a new program at Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) that lets volunteers take shelter dogs out on adventures. While not a new idea for animal shelters, it’s the first program of its kind in Anchorage. The outings give dogs both physical exercise and mental stimulation as volunteers pick them up from the shelter and head out for a hike, a walk or even a camping trip. To get started, stop by the shelter to fill out an application, brush up on leash skills and meet your next trail buddy.
